With one eyebrow raised, I agreed to implement this comprehensive leadership development program with all mid and upper management at Equity Residential. Because of the depth of the program, the use of many instruments, and the delivery of open peer feedback, I was unsure of how it would be received and if the intended results would be understood. However, the initial responses were so positive, we decided to greatly expand the program to deliver it to all managers throughout the entire company. As the program progressed, we witnessed our management teams improve and increase their communication skills as we developed more focused, successful leaders in all areas of the company.

One instrument used in the program was a 360 degree feedback survey. While some anticipated the results of the survey with fear, it truly gave supervisors and managers a chance to find out how they were perceived and what their bosses, peers, and subordinates felt about the effectiveness, strengths, and challenges of their leadership skills and job performance. Most had an eye-opening experience that resulted in a change of attitude while working to improve and enhance their methods of communication and leadership. I wholeheartedly endorse this program having gone through it myself and witnessed the positive and tangible impact it had on the culture of the company.
